Woven, a technical assessment platform recognized for replicating real-world engineering scenarios, has been acquired to strengthen Andela’s ability to assess and connect engineering talent in the age of artificial intelligence. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The deal comes as organizations move beyond AI experimentation toward large-scale implementation, increasing demand for engineers who can design, deploy, and operate AI-driven systems. By integrating Woven’s assessment technology, Andela aims to more precisely evaluate engineers across highly specialized, AI-focused roles.
As part of the acquisition, Woven’s founder and chief executive officer, Wes Winham Winler, will join Andela to spearhead the development of next-generation technical assessments. These will focus on both AI-augmented software development and the construction of sophisticated AI systems.
The acquisition underscores Andela’s strategic shift toward meeting enterprise demand for AI-native engineers, rather than solely general-purpose software developers. Across the global tech landscape, employers are increasingly prioritizing candidates with demonstrated, hands-on experience in building AI capabilities, including large language models, autonomous workflows, and AI governance frameworks.
The acquisition builds on Andela’s broader investments in AI-powered talent infrastructure, following the launch of Andela Talent Cloud, an integrated platform designed to modernize how companies discover, evaluate, and manage technical talent. Introduced in October 2023, Andela Talent Cloud combines an AI-driven matching engine with a global talent marketplace, offering greater visibility into candidate skills, performance data, and assessment outcomes.
By incorporating Woven’s technology into its existing assessment ecosystem, which already includes Qualified, a platform Andela acquired earlier, the company is assembling a more robust and scalable evaluation framework. This expanded assessment engine is designed to measure not only coding ability, but an engineer’s real-world readiness to perform in complex production environments.
The convergence of these technologies establishes a unified assessment foundation tailored to the realities of AI-centric development. Andela’s Chief Executive Officer, Carrol Chang, described the acquisition as a critical milestone in the company’s effort to build what it calls “the best technical assessment engine in the world.”
Winler, who now leads Andela’s assessment product team, reinforced this view, noting that the combined strengths of both organizations create an opportunity to build more precise and scalable methods for evaluating engineering performance in the AI era.
