What happens when creativity flows from afternoon light into starlit hours? On Friday, May 2nd, 2025, two beautiful events were held at The Hive Hub: Brushstrokes and Bubbles, an art event, and Night Shift, an event where like-minded individuals gather to engage in conversations, unwind, watch movies, and relax after a stressful day.
This month’s gathering welcomed over 43 people, a mix of designers, developers, artists, and local enthusiasts who showed up for an evening of shared laughter, spontaneous performances, and delicious bites.
Brushstrokes & Bubbles: Stories in Colour
With over 43+ attendees, the May edition of Hive’s art event wasn’t just another paint-and-sip; it was a vibrant reminder that art lives in everyone, regardless of age or ability.
The afternoon began with “Brushstrokes & Bubbles,” an art-centric gathering to foster self-expression and connection through collaborative painting.
1. Opening Session: Inioluwa Aderibigbe, the Hive Art Club Lead, set the tone with reflections on the power of creativity, emphasizing freedom, play, and shared connection.
2. Interactive Icebreakers & Games: Lighthearted games facilitated mingling and laughter, creating an inclusive atmosphere for newcomers and returning guests.
3. Collaborative Painting Session: Attendees grouped and co-created visual pieces, blending individual strokes into collective masterpieces under Inioluwa’s guidance.
4. Kids’ Corner: Children actively participated, painting and engaging guests about their creative processes, adding a multi-generational touch to the event.
5. Karaoke, Food, and Community Vibes: The evening concluded with karaoke, heartfelt sing-alongs, and shared laughter over skewered meat and punch, encapsulating the essence of community bonding.
Nightshift: Conversations, Chills & Cardigans
As dusk settled, more than 25 attendees gathered at the Hive Hub’s Mini-Pitch, which had been transformed into a cozy, open-air lounge for “Nightshift,” an overnight hangout designed for creatives and professionals to unwind and connect.
1. Opening Session: The community manager welcomed attendees, setting an inclusive and relaxed tone for the night.
2. Interactive Games & Icebreakers: Attendees engaged in energetic rounds of charades and other games, fostering camaraderie and laughter.
3. Movie Screening: A screening of The Man from Toronto provided entertainment, with unlimited popcorn and punch enhancing the experience.
4. Care Packages & Midnight Bites: Ticketed attendees received care packages, and a surprise serving of hot peppered plantain and ponmo delighted guests during the night.
5. Karaoke & Late-Night Games: After the movie, the energy surged with karaoke sessions lasting until dawn, alongside console and board games, all under ambient fairy lights.
Final Reflections
Art & Nightshift is more than an event; it reflects what The Hive Incubator stands for. The Hive quietly shapes a culture of collaboration in Akure by bringing together designers, artists, developers, storytellers, and dreamers under one roof. Each edition creates space for people to connect, co-create, and build something bigger than themselves.
As we continue to host these gatherings, it’s clear that community-driven experiences like this are essential to growing Akure’s creative and tech ecosystem. The Hive isn’t just nurturing talent; it’s building a movement, one shared moment at a time.
